Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop later tonight and continue at least into Thursday morning. Widespread rainfall amounts up to one inch are possible, especially near and south of I-80. A narrow corridor of heavier rainfall is possible, generally between I-80 and portions of central Illinois. Within this corridor, local areas may see rainfall of 2-4 inches. Vegetation remains somewhat dormant and soil moisture is above average in northeast and east central Illinois, which will reduce infiltration and allow for a larger portion of rainfall to runoff into streams and rivers. Ensemble river forecast guidance suggests that river rises are possible in the Kankakee, Vermilion, and Illinois river basins, with only low probabilities for bankfull or minor flood conditions. While widespread flooding is not likely, a few streams and rivers may near bankfull on Thursday, and localized flooding of creeks, ditches, and poor drainage areas would result if a corridor of heavy rainfall occurs. This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts are possible, but not yet certain. Persons should closely monitor forecasts including the possibility of flood watches, warnings, and advisories. No additional outlooks are expected for this event. $$ WSL
