...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT 

FOR SOUTHEASTERN BOONE, EASTERN KANAWHA, SOUTH CENTRAL ROANE, CLAY, 

NORTHWESTERN FAYETTE, WEST CENTRAL NICHOLAS AND NORTHWESTERN RALEIGH 

COUNTIES...



At 842 PM EDT, emergency management reported heavy rain and high 

water across portions of the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3.5 inches 

of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are 

possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.



HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Heavy rain producing

         flash flooding.



SOURCE...Emergency management reported.



IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,

         urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.



Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Clay, Montgomery, Clendenin, Cedar Grove, East Bank, Glasgow, 

  Smithers, Gauley Bridge, Pratt, Glen, Powellton, Burnwell, Amma, 

  Bald Knob, Whitesville, Handley, Sylvester, Pond Gap, Bentree and 

  Indore.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.



In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are 

potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded 

roads. Find an alternate route.



Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll 

free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.
