####018024591#### FNUS53 KMQT 180857 FWFMQT FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN National Weather Service Marquette MI 457 AM EDT Sat May 18 2024 ...Warm with near elevated wildfire concerns this weekend and some scattered storms later today, more chances for rainfall early to middle of next week... .DISCUSSION: Near elevated wildfire concerns could develop later today as southerly winds increase ahead of an approaching cold front. The warm southerly winds will send inland temperatures soaring into the 80s. This warmth in combination with southerly winds gusting as high as 30 mph and min RHs lowering close to 30 percent could result in near elevated wildfire concerns mainly over the west half of the U.P. this afternoon. Some scattered showers and thunderstorms could also develop along the front later today into tonight as it moves east across the area. Much drier conditions develop behind the cold front on Sunday as RHs could dip to around 20 percent over much of the interior. Fortunately, winds look lighter on Sunday, generally 10 mph or less, which should ease fire weather concerns. It looks like widespread rains should return for the early to middle part of next week as upper disturbances move through an increasingly warm and moist air mass enveloping the region.
