A shortwave trough moving through the region today with a low developing near the CA/AZ/NV border Monday morning and into AZ in the afternoon as a ridge of high pressure from the Eastern Pacific builds into the region. Scattered showers possible mainly along the coast and higher terrain of Nrn and Central CA and over NV into tonight. Precip amounts will be variable with the convection but amount generally expected to be a tenth of an inch or less with local amounts to around 0.25 inches possible. High pressure builds into the region from the Eastern Pacific Monday into early Thursday bringing warmer and drier conditions. An upper level trough approaches the west coast late Thursday into Friday with the low moving through CA late Friday into Saturday. This will bring a chance of precip mainly to the north late Thursday into early Friday then spreading south late Friday. Max temps generally warm to near normal to around 15 degrees below normal (coldest over Srn Sierra and NV) this afternoon then to near normal to 10 degrees below normal Monday and near normal to 10 degrees above normal Tuesday and 5 to 15 degrees above normal Wednesday and Thursday with possibly the warmest temperatures we have seen so far this year. Max temps start to cool to 10 degrees below normal to 10 degrees above normal over CA on Friday and near normal to around 15 degrees above normal over NV (warmest over NE NV). Record low min temperatures were set at several locations in Srn CA yesterday including LAX, Anaheim, Borrego, and Big Bear. Overnight temperatures warm to near to 10 degrees below normal tonight to near normal to 10 degrees above normal Tuesday night and 5 to 15 degrees above normal Wednesday night. Temperatures start to cool to near normal to 10 degrees above normal over CA and near 10 to 15 degrees above normal over NV Thursday night. Freezing levels generally around 4000-6000ft over the Sierra and to 7000ft and higher over Srn CA and 5000-7000ft over NV this morning and rising to 5000-8000 ft over the region this afternoon. Freezing levels rise to around 7000 ft and higher over the region Monday afternoon and 9000-12000 ft Tuesday afternoon and remain around there Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure builds into the region. Freezing levels lower to 4000-6000ft over NW CA and Srn OR Cascades Friday morning and around 3000-5000 ft over Nrn and Central CA Friday afternoon/evening and around 2500-4000ft over Nrn and Central CA and 3000-7000 ft over Srn CA (W-SE) and 5000-7000ft over NV Saturday morning.
