Ice coverage across the Great Lakes remains well below average with about 8.5% total coverage across all of the lakes. There are several areas which do have some limited ice coverage that include portions of Whitefish Bay and Chequamegon Bay in Lake Superior. The Bays de Noc and the edges of Green Bay in western Lake Michigan, northern Lake Michigan into the Straits of Mackinac. The far northwestern portions of Lake Huron has some pockets of ice coverage including the St. Mary's river and along with Saginaw Bay. Some minor ice coverage exists around the edges of Lake St. Clair. Lake Erie has limited ice coverage on the western end of the basin near the Toledo Harbor and the Detroit River as well as near Sandusky Bay. The milder than average weather pattern will continue through the weekend into early next week. Overall, temperatures will remain above seasonable averages through the weekend which will promote further decrease in ice formation and coverage. A cold front will move trough the Great Lakes on Friday into Saturday which may slow down the ice deterioration briefly.
