This tornado developed on the north side of a intense downburst and wind swath as a brief spin-up. Despite the brevity, numerous trees were uprooted or snapped along the path with trees blown down to the NE/N/NW direction in a well defined convergent pattern. Power lines were down as well. Significant tree damage was noted. Multiple homes sustained damage from downed trees or roof damage due to significant severe winds. Peak winds were around 90-105 MPH. Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 14.79 miles Path Width /maximum/: 6000 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/13/2024 Start Time: 03:50 AM CDT Start Location: 10 SSE Silver Creek / Jefferson Davis County / MS Start Lat/Lon: 31.461 / -89.95 End Date: 05/13/2024 End Time: 04:08 AM CDT End Location: 8 NE Columbia / Marion County / MS End Lat/Lon: 31.352 / -89.7392 Survey Summary: This significant swath of intense winds started in the Oak Vale community in Jefferson Davis county and moved SE through the Society Hill community of Jefferson Davis county and continued into N Marion where it impacted the Bunker Hill and Good Hope communities. This swath was extensive and had a sizable area of 70-85 mph winds. More intense winds were embedded and impacted areas at Society Hill, 105 mph peak winds, a sizeable area around Bunker Hill with winds of 90-110 mph and then the Good Hope community with winds 80-95 mph. Overall, timber damage was extensive with tens of thousands of trees uprooted, snapped or damaged to a decent degree. Numerous power liens and poles were down. Roughly two dozen homes suffered major to minor damage across the swath with these being damaged from a combination of trees downed on them or strictly from the wind. The hardest hit area was around Bunker Hill. The area from the reservoir, through Gross-Bunker Hill Road, Pope Road, Hwy 35 to Williamsburg Road experienced the peak portion of the swath of 100-110 mph winds. A section along Pope Road and Hwy 35 was enhanced by less friction as these winds moved over a large open cut over. The roof was removed from a large barn structure and substantial roof damage occurred to the home next door. Tree damage was extensive. Winds steadily weakened as the system moved into the Good Hope community. Max estimated winds were 110 mph. .Carterville Road Wind Swath... Initially a shed had the roof torn off and many large tree limbs broken in trees. Tree damage increased quickly between Corinth Road and Carterville Road. Numerous trees were uprooted or had large limbs snapped along Carterville Road, as well as Harvey Avenue, Jones Street, and Azalea Avenue. Three homes had shingles peeled off, and one home had a large section of siding removed. Power lines were downed as well. The tree fall pattern was to the south and south southeast. .Leeville Wind Swath... The heaviest damage was along Highway 11, and then again on Leeville Road near the intersections of Miller Road and Deermont Road. Numerous trees were uprooted, snapped, or had large sections broken out of them. Several power lines were downed as well. A few homes had shingle or roof damage from large limbs, along with some fences damaged. One shed had the roof blown off.
