In 1990, an outbreak of severe thunderstorms struck the

Central Plains and Midwest from Oklahoma to Indiana and

Western Kentucky.  There were 15 tornadoes and 165

reports of large hail and damaging winds.  Of the 15

twisters, one was a strong F3 that struck North

Stillwater Oklahoma.  The tornado killed one, injured 12,

and caused $4 million damage.  Parts of Central and

Northeast Oklahoma were hammered by softball sized hail. 

Winds clocked at 92 mph roared through Rogers County, a

next door neighboring county east of Tulsa.

In 1968, the deadliest tornado in Iowa history raced 62

miles across the extreme northeast part of the state. 

The violent F5, which reached one half mile wide, killed

13 in Charles City.  There were 450 injuries and $30

million damage.  A new housing project and a department

store were leveled and multiple homes and several farms

vanished.  Immediately after the Charles City Tornado,

far Northeast Iowa was hit by a second F5 tornado that

had a track 13 miles long, and around 450 yards wide.  It

killed 5 and injured 156.
