This will persist until the fog dissipates after sunrise later this morning. Temperatures are hovering in the upper 30s and 40s and winds are light and variable. Once the morning fog burns off it will be a mostly sunny and quiet day, with temperatures peaking around the lower 70s this afternoon. Winds will come around to the southeast during the day and increase to around 10 mph. Tonight and beyond: Showers and thunderstorms are expected to spread across Iowa from west to east tonight, mainly after midnight, before departing eastern Iowa late Saturday. A few of these storms may produce hail or gusty winds in southern Iowa, but the overall severe weather threat is low. Saturday will also be a bit cooler with highs in the lower 60s north to lower 70s southeast, and northwest winds around 15 mph and gusty during the afternoon. Thunderstorm chances will return from around Monday afternoon into Tuesday, and severe weather may be possible once again but this threat will be evaluated in the coming days. The early part of next week also appears milder, with high temperatures both Monday and Tuesday in the mid to upper 70s in most areas. $$
