Skies are virtually clear, but a few patches of fog have developed in some areas. Winds are nearly calm and temperatures have fallen into the upper 30s to lower 40s across Iowa. Today will be quite pleasant for most outdoor interests. Skies will remain mostly sunny and winds will eventually come around to southeast this afternoon, but remain around 10 mph or less. Temperatures will peak in the upper 60s, right around seasonal normals for early May. Tonight and beyond: With sustained southeast breezes tonight temperatures will only fall into the mid 40s to lower 50s, then on Monday the winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph and gusty during the afternoon, and temperatures will rise into the lower 70s making for a mild but breezy day. Thunderstorms are then forecast to spread into southwestern Iowa late Monday afternoon or evening, and move across the remainder of the state Monday night. Severe weather will be possible with these storms, primarily in the form of damaging winds but with tornadoes also possible. The highest threat of severe weather will be in the southwest, only gradually diminishing toward the northeast overnight. Lower thunderstorm chances will then linger on Tuesday and Wednesday, with high temperatures generally in the upper 60s to mid 70s each of those days. $$
