####018001770#### AWUS83 KGLD 020833 RWSGLD Regional Weather Summary for the High Plains National Weather Service Goodland KS 233 AM MDT Thu May 2 2024 High temperatures on Wednesday ranged from the lower 60s to lower 70s, warmest in Burlington, Colorado and coolest in McCook, Nebraska. Isolated supercell thunderstorms developed in Gove County, Kansas Wednesday afternoon, producing baseball to softball sized hail along Highway 23 near the Gove and Lane County border. A separate batch of thunderstorms that developed in northeast Colorado during the late afternoon tracked eastward across northwest Kansas during the evening, producing numerous instances of large hail and occasional wind gusts as high as 60 to 80 mph. Thunderstorms ended from west to east shortly after Midnight MDT. Rainfall amounts varied considerably across the region,. Goodland and Burlington received no measurable precipitation, McCook measured four tenths of an inch and Hill City measured over one inch of rainfall. At 230 AM MDT this morning, the sky was overcast and temperatures ranged from the lower to upper 40s. OUTLOOK... Expect a west to east clearing trend this morning followed by mostly sunny skies this afternoon, with highs in the 60s. Another round of severe weather is expected on Friday. This is the atmosphere's way of reminding us that it's May. Scattered thunderstorms are anticipated to develop over portions of northeast Colorado and northwest Kansas Friday afternoon. Severe storms capable of producing damaging winds are possible, mainly late Friday afternoon and Friday evening, as storms increase in coverage and track southeast toward southwestern and south-central Kansas. $$ Vincent
