Winter Storm Warnings are in effect over northwestern South Dakota, much of North Dakota, and northwestern Minnesota. Winter Storm Watches are in effect over portions of northeastern Minnesota. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect over portions of central South Dakota into west-central Minnesota. On the heels of the occluded front, a frigid Arctic airmass continued to spill into the Heartland behind the strong cold front racing east across the Plains. Gusty sustained winds upwards of 25-30 kts were noted over the Northern Plains as high pressure creeps out of the Canadian Praries. Afternoon radar mosaic imagery observed an expansive shield of snowfall pivoting to the northwest around the surface low center.
