As with the earlier episodes of lake effect snow, snowfall rates with this activity will reach 2-3 inches per hour and combine with gusty winds to produce near-zero visibility and dangerous travel. The snowfall should begin to subside from west to east late this evening through Sunday night as the favorable wind trajectories and cold air aloft over the Lakes begins to wane following an influx of warmer air from the southwest as surface ridging over the Mid-Mississippi Valley translates eastward. The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction Center at 1000 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather Service office for additional information on this event. Otto $$
