####018023930#### ACUS45 KWBC 170311 SCCNS5 Storm Summary Number 12 for Coast-to-Coast Winter Storm System NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 900 PM CST Fri Dec 16 2022 ...A swath of wintry weather continues over the Upper Midwest, Northeast, and New England... Blizzard Warnings are in effect for central North Dakota. Lake Effect Snow Warnings are in effect for downwind portions of Lake Erie. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect over portions of the interior Northeast and New England. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of the Northern Plains, Upper Midwest, and areas downwind of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings and advisories, please see www.weather.gov At 800 PM CST...Surface low pressure continues to weaken over the Upper Midwest this evening, vertically stacked beneath a cold upper-low overhead. To the east, satellite and surface observations indicate a strengthening 995 mb low pressure system close to Cape Cod associated with a strong Polar jet-stream nosing into New England. The strong jet and developing low pressure are focusing moderate to heavy snowfall and mixed precipitation over the Interior Northeast and New England, although scattered light to moderate snowfall (and gusty winds) persists over the Upper Midwest per Doppler radar. ...Selected preliminary Storm Total Snowfall in inches from 700 AM CST Sun Dec 11 through 800 PM CST Fri Dec 16... ...CONNECTICUT... CHIEF LAKE 5 ENE 0.30 DORCHESTER 0.20 MARSHFIELD 0.20 S PLOVER 0.20 STETSONVILLE 0.10 Winter weather hazards over the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest are generally winding down as the respective Blizzard Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories will expire by tomorrow morning. However, downwind areas of Lake Michigan and Lake Erie will see heavy lake effect snows through this weekend as cold west-northwesterly flow continues on the back side of the coastal low. In fact, current forecasts call for upwards of two feet of snowfall downwind of Lake Erie within the Lake Effect Snow Warning areas. As the low pulls away toward the Canadian Maritimes tomorrow, heavy snowfall will generally subside from west to east from the Interior Northeast through New England. Accordingly, Winter Storm Warnings west of New Hampshire will expire tomorrow morning/afternoon, while Warning level winter impacts will remain over New Hampshire and Maine through tomorrow night/Sunday morning. Owing to multiple days of snow, blowing snow, and freezing rain across a broad swath of the country, travel may become dangerous or impossible at times, so be sure to refer to WPC or your local NWS office to access the latest forecasts and learn about potential impacts to your area. The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction Center at 900 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather Service office for additional information on this event.
