Rain showers will be sweeping through the central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic through early Friday as the approaching cold front crosses the region. Another surface wave moving through coastal areas of the Mid-Atlantic overnight will merge with the primary system over the Great Lakes on Friday and will spread moderate to heavy rainfall across portions of New York and New England. In the wake of the cold front, frigid Arctic air will arrive over the eastern half of the country through Friday with high and low temperatures likely to be as much as 20 to 30 degrees below average. Blizzard conditions will persist over portions of the Upper Midwest and Midwest through Friday night with a combination of heavy snow and strong winds.
