HARMAN 0.25 MATHIAS 0.10 SHADY SPRING 3 ESE 0.10 Areas of moderate to heavy snow and strong winds will continue to impact the Great Lakes region through tonight. The Arctic air surging over the Great Lakes will result in extremely heavy snowfall totals by the end of the weekend with as much as 2 to 4 feet snow expected over the favored snow belts downwind of the lakes. Blizzard conditions are expected to persist around portions of the Upper Midwest and the Great Lakes region, but conditions should improve on Sunday as the winds begin to subside. Arctic air will be in place across much of the central and eastern U.S. this holiday weekend with temperatures as much as 20 to 30 degrees below average, including overnight lows that will be below zero for many areas of the Midwest, and in the single digits and teens elsewhere across portions of the southern and eastern U.S. Please consult WPC's latest winter weather Key Messages for updates on the progression this blizzard and the Arctic blast impacting the country. The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction Center at 900 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather Service office for additional information on this event.
