Further east, moderate to heavy snow will continue throughout the Ohio Valley and eastern Great Lakes this morning, with snowfall rates of 1-2"/hr possible, leading to an additional 6-10" of snow across a thin stripe from central Indiana to southeastern Michigan. Over the interior Northeast and Appalachians, precipitation is expected to begin as moderate to heavy snow, albeit eventually switching to mixed precipitation and rain, as the low-pressure center tracks inland, sending a surge of warm air northward on the east side of the low. Peak snowfall rates in the interior Northeast are likely to range between 1-2"/hr, leading to potentially dangerous travel conditions before precipitation changes to sleet, ice and rain later in the afternoon and evening. Heaviest accumulations will be confined to northern stretches of interior New England, with widespread 8-12" possible. Furthermore, ice accumulations of up to 0.1" is forecast across areas extending from the northern Appalachians through New England. The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction Center at 900 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather Service office for additional information on this event. Russell $$
