...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 315 PM EDT FOR

NORTHWESTERN CHARLES COUNTY...



At 257 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado 

was located just offshore of Hallowing Point, moving northeast at 20 

mph toward the shore of the northwestern corner of Charles County 

near Accokeek.



HAZARD...Tornado.



SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.



IMPACT...For those in the direct path of a tornado touchdown, flying 

         debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. 

         Damage to roofs, siding, and windows may occur. Mobile 

         homes may be damaged or destroyed. Tree damage is likely.



Locations impacted include...

Accokeek, Bryans Road, Mason Neck, and Potomac Heights.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest

floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a

mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter

and protect yourself from flying debris.



If on or near Potomac River adjacent to Fairfax and Charles 

Counties, get away from the water and move to safe shelter 

immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be 

struck by lightning. Severe thunderstorms can produce large 

capsizing waves, even on small bodies of water. Move into dock and 

seek safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a 

thunderstorm.
