The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH... A Near-Equatorial trough extends from 3N138E to a new weak and diffuse circulation near 3N140E before curving southeast to EQ146E. Convergence near this feature is producing widely scattered pockets of convection. TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... A surface trough in the trades extends from 4N150E to northwest of Chuuk at 10N150 then north-northeast to 18N151E. Another trough extends just west of the RMI from 10N161E to northwest of Wake Island at 21N163E. not much convection is developing near either of these features. ...DISCUSSION... "Most" of the widely scattered convection is developing from 130E to the Dateline and mainly between 4N and 8N where the moisture plume with higher PWATs is located, as is typically found. Embedded troughs in the flow are helping to focus the convection some, but these features are weak and the lack of a more widespread/heavier convective signature precludes classifying it as an ITCZ. With the El Nino Drought continuing, the models show this pattern will continue through the weekend and much of next week, with just an occasional spike in shower potential locally across western and eastern Micronesia. $$ Doll
