####018002631#### AXPQ20 PGUM 202025 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 625 AM ChST Sun Apr 21 2024 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... TROPICAL DISTURBANCE... Ascat wind analysis indicates a tropical disturbance is centered roughly near 5N160E; embedded in a surface troughing pattern seen extending over Pohnpei State. This is part of a larger area across Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae states where surface winds are converging under an area of upper level divergence. The surface trough extends farther north from 5N160E over Enewetak Atoll to 14N162E. Satellite shows a convective complex of heavy showers and thunderstorms just moving over the Weno Chuuk area this morning. Also, showers and thunderstorms continue to develop in an area from near Pohnpei northward across Enewetak. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH... The remnants of a NET have moved mostly west of 130E this morning. TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... A trade-wind trough over southeast Yap State curves from 7N142E to 2N144E. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are found within about 50 miles of this trough. Another trade-wind trough along with converging surface winds seen over the Marshall Islands curves from 9N171E to near Butaritari at 4N176E. Widespread clouds and patchy showers are occurring over the Marshall Islands, but mainly south of 10N. OTHER SYSTEMS... A weak cold front northwest of Wake Island extends from 25N160E to 20N150E then runs westward as a shear line along 20N north of the Mariana Islands to about 20N140E. Clouds and patchy showers are seen along and up to 50 miles north of this front. ...DISCUSSION... The tropical disturbance is poorly organized and should drift slowly westward, but it has not been moving much recently. It will likely continue to cause unsettled weather over much of Micronesia the next few days. The trough over southeast Yap State is moving westward and will cause showers at times for Palau and to a lesser degree near and north of Yap for the next couple days. The trade-wind trough over the Marshall Islands is edging slowly westward. It should produce much needed rainfall for Majuro and some of the other islands, but only a few light showers are expected along and north of 10N. $$ Simpson
