The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... A weak trade-wind trough has pushed west of Ngulu is Yap State and is approaching the Republic of Palau. Widely scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are accompanying this feature. Another trough in the trades stretches northwest from EQ178 to north to northeast of Kosrae and up towards Ujae Atoll. Widespread cloud cover with showers and a few thunderstorms are associated with this feature from the equator northward to Namorik, where better surface convergence is found, becoming extremely isolated north of there. Another trough extends northwest to northward from EQ178 to east of Majuro before ending near 13N 174E. Minimal convection is found along this feature as the only convergence is associated with speed convergence. ...DISCUSSION... Convergence and moisture quality looks to improve for the latter half of the week across between 5N and 9N from 140E to teh Date Line as seen in the latest GFS GDI values. Surface convergence should also get a boost along the trough located across eastern Micronesia/western portions of the RMI. This should foster expanding convection both in terms of aerial coverage and intensity as we head through the week. Another trough approaching the RMI from the east is also expected to sharpen some, aided by good speed convergence along it. This may also help expand rainfall coverage, perhaps even to 10N. Unfortunately though, north of there the GFS forecasts remain quite dry. $$ Doll
