####018002612#### AXPQ20 PGUM 242030 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 630 AM ChST Thu Apr 25 2024 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... TRADE-WIND TROUGHS/SURGES... A series of trade-wind troughs and surges extend across the region. The first trough is located west of Palau near 130E. A trade trough/surge straddles eastern Yap state and western Chuuk state. A duo of trade troughs/surges lie between Chuuk and Kosrae. A surge in trade winds is pushing into the Marshall Islands. Pockets of moderate convection are occurring with the troughs/surges. Some deeper convection with lightning is occurring where the troughs/surges pass through the trade convergence, between the equator and 9N and 141-172E. A couple of more subtle troughs north of 15N are bringing spotty showers and convection; one west of Wake Island and another just west of the Date Line. TRADE CONVERGENCE... Widespread trade convergence is helping produce scattered to numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms, stretching from eastern Yap state through Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae states and the Marshall Islands to across the Date Line. The deepest convection is occurring where the trade convergence zone interacts with the passing trade troughs/surges. Showers are still struggling to reach up to Wotje and other northern islands of the RMI, which are still in extreme to exceptional drought. COLD FRONT/SHEAR LINE A dissipating cold front enters the area of responsibility (AOR) near 25N160E, stretching southwest and transitioning to a shear line, washing out northeast of Saipan near 16N150E. Showers are occurring along the front/shear line, but are diminishing. ...DISCUSSION... The trade troughs and surges will continue to push west across Micronesia through the weekend, interacting with the trade convergence zone. Expect scattered to at times numerous showers and some thunderstorms from Palau through the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands, but likely staying south of Yap Proper. The trade troughs north of 10N will diminish and not bring much, if any, impacts to the Marianas or Wake Island. The cold front/shear line will continue to wash out with showers diminshing. $$ Slagle
