####018002830#### AXPQ20 PGUM 252032 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 632 AM ChST Fri Apr 26 2024 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... TRADE-WIND TROUGHS/SURGES... A series of trade-wind troughs and surges in trade winds extend across the region. The first trough/surge is located south and east of Palau from near 3N139E and extends north and west to near 16N133E. Moderate to deep convection is occurring over much of the Republic of Palau and across southwestern Yap state. Another trade trough/surge stretches from southeast of the Marianas near 13N146E south through eastern Yap state and western Chuuk states with pockets of moderate convection. A surge in trade winds is pushing across the Marshall Islands and into Kosrae and Pohnpei, with pockets of moderate convection as well. A couple of more subtle troughs north of 15N are bringing spotty showers and convection; one between Wake Island and Minami-Tori-shima and another just west of the Date Line. TRADE CONVERGENCE... Widespread trade convergence is helping produce scattered to numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms, stretching from south and east of Palau through Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae states and the southern Marshall Islands to across the Date Line. The deepest convection is occurring where the trade convergence zone interacts with the passing trade troughs/surges. Showers are still struggling to reach up to the northern islands of the RMI, which are still in extreme to exceptional drought. COLD FRONT/SHEAR LINE A cold frontal boundary enters the area of responsibility (AOR) near 25N180E, stretching west and rounding a strong high pressure to the north, then curving northwest as a warm front, and exiting the AOR near 25N168E. A shield of low-topped showers are occurring along and north of the boundary. ...DISCUSSION... The trade troughs and surges will continue to push west across Micronesia through the weekend, interacting with the trade convergence zone. Expect scattered to at times numerous showers and some thunderstorms from the Republic Palau, through the Federated States of Micronesia and the southern Marshall Islands, but likely staying south of Yap Proper. The trade troughs north of 15N will diminish and not bring much, if any, impacts to the Marianas or Wake Island. The cold front will slowly creep south and east and continue to wash out, with showers diminishing. $$ Slagle
