####018002941#### AXPQ20 PGUM 282040 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 640 AM ChST Mon Apr 29 2024 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... A series of trade-wind troughs and surges in trade winds extend across the region. The first trough/surge that pushed across Palau yesterday and brought gusty winds and heavy downpours, extends from the Equator to 18N and pushing near 130E as it heads west towards the Philippines. Another trade trough extends from near Kwajalein north over Wake Island and exiting the AOR near 25N166E. with shallow showers and spotty convection. Other troughs and surges in trade winds are pushing across Micronesia and interacting with the convergence zone, enhancing convection. A more defined trough/surge is working out of western Chuuk state into eastern Yap state, with moderate to deep convection. OTHER SYSTEMS... FRONTAL BOUNDARY/SHEAR LINE... A persistent frontal boundary east of the Date Line transitions to a shear line and enters the area of responsibility (AOR) near 21N180E, stretching west and rounding high pressure, then curving northwest and exiting the AOR near 25N167E. A shield of low- topped showers are occurring along and north of the boundary. ITCZ/TRADE CONVERGENCE ZONE... The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) begins south of Palau and Yap Proper near the Equator at 138E and extends east northeast to south of Pohnpei Proper near 3N158E, where it transitions to a zone of trade convergence and extends east across Kosrae and the southern Marshall Islands, exiting the AOR near 5N180. Moderate to deep convection is occurring along and north of the convergence zone, from 142E to past the Date Line and the Equator to 8N. ...DISCUSSION... The trade troughs and surges will continue to push west across Micronesia, interacting with the trade convergence zone/ITCZ and enhancing convection. Expect scattered to at times numerous showers and some thunderstorms from the Republic Palau, through the Federated States of Micronesia and the southern Marshall Islands, but likely staying south of Yap Proper. The trough near Kwajalein and Wake Island will diminish and not bring much in the way of impacts. The trough/surge pushing out of Chuuk state is projected to bring moderate to deep convection and gusty winds across southern Yap state and then likely staying south of the main islands of Palau, before exiting the AOR on Wednesday. The shear line will slowly creep south and continue to wash out, with showers diminishing. $$ Slagle
