####018002310#### AXPQ20 PGUM 082008 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 608 AM ChST Thu May 9 2024 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH... The Near-Equatorial Troughs (NET) enters the area of responsibility (AOR) near 4N130E, and extends east through Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) Invest 92W southwest of Weno, Chuuk near 3N148E, and exits the AOR near EQ156E. Moderate to deep convection is occurring in the vicinity of Invest 92W and widespread cloudiness is seen across the NET. TRADE-WIND CONVERGENCE... Convergent trade winds extend from west of Pohnpei southeast across Kosrae then extends to the northeast passing south of Majuro. Pockets of moderate to deep convection are occurring along this convergent trade wind feature, mainly near Pohnpei and Kosrae. SURFACE TROUGH/LOW... A surface low, Invest 92W, is located near 3N148E, southwest of Chuuk. This is generating moderate to deep convection and satellite indicates slight rotation in cloud features. TUTT... The Tropical Upper Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) enters the AOR near 25N175E and extends southwest to an upper low north of Wake near 24N170E and continues southwest ending near 20N155E. ...DISCUSSION... The NET with the embedded circulations will persist and may slowly meander north. Invest 92W remains sub-low for tropical cyclone development and is not well organized. Convective activity is expected to slowly track west towards Palau. The trade convergence will continue to push west across central and eastern Micronesia, slightly shifting north by the end of the week. The surface troughs embedded in the trade wind convergence will continue to move west and increase in convective activity the next day or two. The TUTT is expected to extend further south the next few days and enhance convection associated with the surface troughs near Kosrae and Pohnpei near the weekend. $$ Hong
