...River Statement For The Cahaba River...

.Heavy rainfall is expected across the area late tonight and early 
Wednesday. This will keep river levels elevated throughout the next 
several days. However, levels are expected to remain below 
established flood stages, and any overflow along the river should be
of minor nature.


The Cahaba River at Marion Junction.
* At 8:00 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 23.3 feet.
* Action stage is 15.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 36.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 30.9 feet 
  Saturday morning.
* Impact...At 36.0 feet...Flooding is confined mainly to farm and 
  pasture lands in the area.


The Cahaba River at Centreville.
* At 8:15 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 6.9 feet.
* Action stage is 23.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 23.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 22.3 feet 
  early Thursday morning.
* Impact...At 23.0 feet...Pasture lands begin to flood in the 
  Centreville area.


The Cahaba River at Suttle.
* At 8:00 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 20.4 feet.
* Action stage is 28.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 32.0 feet.
* Forecast...No forecast is available for this location.
* Impact...At 32.0 feet...Flooding of pasture lands and low-lying 
  agricultural lands occurs in the Suttle area.


Another statement will be issued by Wednesday morning, or sooner if 
conditions warrant.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has 
already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next 
48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may 
become necessary to revise these forecasts upward.
