Multiple locations of extreme straight-line wind damage were found during the survey which has been grouped into three major areas of damage. The first swath of damage was at the intersection of Highway 62 and Arkansas Junction, and included the total destruction of a large metal building, numerous snapped power poles, and a roof ripped off of a small retail business. The extent of damage was on both the north and south side of Highway 62 all angled in a northeast direction with estimated peak wind speeds of 130 mph. This was classified as "Severe Wind Damage Area #1". Further damage was found along Stiles Road, Lovington Highway, and Caudill Road which has been classified as "Severe Wind Damage Area #2". The damage found here included numerous power poles snapped, roof damage to multiple homes, a hundred or more cattle hutches blown over a mile to the northeast, dozens of cattle fatalities due to stampeding during the severe wind, multiple overturned irrigation pivots, metal structures torn apart, and a piece of a combine was torn off and blown into a car along State Highway 83. All of the damage found was oriented to the north or northeast with estimated peak wind speeds of 110 mph. The final area of damage, "Severe Wind Damage Area #3", encompassed areas north of US Highway 82 including the intersection of Pope Road and East McDonald Road, Hennington Road, and East Crockett Road. The damage here included a large barn that had been completely destroyed, with pieces of the barn thrown northeast across East McDonald Road. A few projectiles ended up in trees, sticking out of the field north of East McDonald Road, and stuck in the powerlines. Additional damage found in this area included multiple overturned irrigation pivots, snapped trees, roof damage to homes, other metal structures destroyed, and power poles snapped. Peak wind speeds from this damage were estimated to be 118 mph. && NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
