The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center in Mammoth Lakes
has issued a Backcountry Avalanche Watch for the
following areas: the Eastern Sierra in Mono County and
the Eastern Sierra in Inyo County

* WHAT...The avalanche danger is expected to rise to HIGH at all
  elevations on Friday, March 1, 2024. Very dangerous avalanche
  conditions are expected from Friday afternoon through Sunday
  morning.

* WHERE...The eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range 
  between Virgina Lakes on the north to Bishop Creek on the 
  south.

* WHEN...In effect Thursday 7:00 AM PST to Sunday 7:00 AM PST.

* IMPACTS...Intense snowfall and extreme winds will overload the
  snowpack. Expect widespread areas of unstable snow. Traveling in
  mountainous areas will be difficult and very dangerous. 

* PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche
  conditions are expected to develop by Friday afternoon, March 1,
  2024. Anticipate avoiding all avalanche terrain as the storm
  intensifies. Avalanche danger is expected to peak on Saturday
  morning, March 2, 2024, but heavy snow will continue through
  Sunday morning, March 3, 2024.
