The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northwestern Alleghany NC County in northwestern North Carolina...
  Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina...
  Central Grayson County in southwestern Virginia...

* Until 1100 PM EDT Monday.

* At 452 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 
  thunderstorms producing heavy rain within the warned area. 
  Flooding has been reported by local law enforcement in the Baldwin 
  and Todd areas with at least one road completely flooded and 
  closed in both directions. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have 
  fallen within this area during the past 1 to 1 1.2 hours and 
  additional heavy rainfall is tracking into this same area from the 
  south. Very heavy rain also extends northward into central Grayson 
  county. The ground in these areas is completely saturated from 
  recent heavy rainfall.  Additional rainfall will significantly 
  increase the flooding threat.  Flooding and flash flooding is 
  already ongoing or imminent.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

  Bear Branch, Crab Fork, Big Horse Creek, Bridle Creek, Dog Creek, 
  Dry Run, Call Creek, Elk Creek, Comers Rock Branch, Darnell Creek, 
  Dickey Creek, Farmers Branch, Flag Pond Branch, Fox Creek and 
  Beaver Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Precautions/Preparedness Statements:  Turn around, don't drown when 
encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are 
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded 
roads. Find an alternate route.
