Central Cherokee County in upstate South Carolina... * Until 645 PM EDT. * At 351 PM EDT, Torrential rainfall over central Cherokee County including the city of Gaffney has produced 1.5 to 3 inches of rainfall in less than 90 minutes. This rate of rainfall is enough to quickly overwhelm the headwater streams around Gaffney, including Peoples Creek, Limestone Creek and Irene Creek in and near the city of Gaffney as well as East Gaffney, likely impacting low-lying roadways, property, as well as a few structures. Areas potentially impacted include near Thompson St, Beech St, and Colonial Ave. The heaviest rainfall is starting to shift south and east of Gaffney, but it will take at least another 30-60 minutes for streams to crest. Expect flash-flooding to develop over warned area imminently. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. This may produce deeper flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to area streams with impacts to vulnerable structures possible. Expect extensive flooding of farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, and golf courses. Inundation may be several feet deep. Other flood-prone areas will be impacted including low-lying roadways, low- water crossings, underpasses, and parking lots. Several low-water crossings, roads, and bridges may be flooded and impassible, with deeper flows over roadways possible.
