...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING
THROUGH THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Southeast to South winds around 20 mph and gusty will 
  produce a strong northward-flowing longshore current, parallel 
  to the beach. There will also be a Moderate risk of life- 
  threatening rip currents.

* WHERE...The beaches of Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, St. 
  Lucie and Martin counties.

* WHEN...Today and into tonight.

* IMPACTS...Strong currents can knock you off your feet and make 
  you even more susceptible to being caught in the seaward pull 
  of a rip current. If you decide to enter the ocean, do so only 
  within sight of a lifeguard, and never swim alone.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
