FLOOD STATEMENT

For the Upper Humboldt, including Elko, Minor flooding is forecasted 
with a slight chance of moderate flooding. 

Continued runoff from local areas into the Humboldt River upstream
from Elko and in the area around town caused the river to crest at
around 8.7 feet overnight. 

The river is lowering this morning, but will rise again with the 
warmth of the day. It could reach close to 9 foot stage later 
Thursday. 

At this level, there is more widespread flooding in the areas near the 
river and in parts of the downtown section closer to the river.

In addition, areas closer to Carlin could get the flood wave today
and tonight. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Most people who die in floods, die in their cars because they drove
right into the flooded road. Don't do this. Don't get on the news
this way.

Turn around. Don't drown.
