Bands of moderate to heavy snow showers will move across Eastern Kenai Peninsula and Eastern Turnagain Arm through Tuesday evening. The first of these bands will move through the area early to mid Tuesday morning with the second late Tuesday morning through mid Tuesday afternoon. Snowfall rates may approach 1 to 2 inches per hour in heavier snow showers, reducing visibility to as low as one quarter mile at times. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution when driving through heavy snow showers. The highest snowfall accumulations are expected along Portage Glacier Road, where 5 to 10 inches of snow could fall. Elsewhere along the Seward Highway, 2 to 6 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts, are possible. Any snow accumulations on area roads this morning may turn slushy or wet by afternoon as temperatures warm into the mid 30s. $$
