Cold air originating from the Interior will push south into Southwest Alaska through mid-to-late week. Overnight wind chills will reach as low as -20 to -50 throughout much of Southcentral by Thursday morning. Areas that are protected from the wind will likely see similar ambient temperatures for morning lows. Winds to remain gusty out of the north during this period, with speeds reaching up to 30 mph in some areas, particularly near north-south orientated terrain. The Lower Kuskokwim Valley will see the coldest temperatures by late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. By Thursday night, temperatures will still be cold, but relatively warmer air will move in from a front in the Bering. Temperatures are currently expected to rise steadily through the weekend and into next week. $$
