A stout low pressure system will move inland from the Pacific, crossing over the Four Corners region and into Colorado on Monday. This will lead to very windy conditions in New Mexico with peak speeds expected Monday afternoon. The strongest wind speeds are expected to be concentrated over central and eastern areas of New Mexico where gusts may occasionally reach 50 to 60 mph. Locations in the south central mountains could even observe damage to trees, utility lines, and other vulnerable structures. Travelers can expect difficult driving conditions on Monday with strong crosswinds and areas of low visibility due to blowing dust. In addition to the strong winds, very low humidity is also forecast Monday. The combination of strong winds, very low humidity, and unstable conditions will bring the potential for rapid fire spread with critical to extreme fire behavior Monday. Outdoor burning should be postponed. You can monitor NOAA Weather Radio, weather.gov/abq, or your local media for the latest weather forecast and statements. $$ 52
