Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late tonight in eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois. These showers and thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall rates up to one inch per hour as they move east across northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana. Soil moisture across most of the area ranges from near average to slightly above average across the area, which will have only a limited impact on runoff rates. Although most areas will receive only 0.5 inches of rainfall or less, a narrow corridor may receive localized rainfall up to 1.5 to 2.0 inches from multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. If rainfall of this magnitude occurs, minor flooding of ditches, small streams, and poor drainage areas would be expected. Widespread flooding is unlikely. This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts are possible, but not yet certain. No additional outlooks are expected for this event unless the threat for heavy rainfall becomes more certain. $$
