...Locally Heavy Rainfall Possible Tonight through Monday night...

        

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and 

tonight across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana with 

additional showers and storms expected Monday afternoon through 

Monday night.



These showers and thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall rates up 

to one inch per hour as they move east across northern Illinois and 

northwestern Indiana. Soil moisture across most of the area ranges 

from near average to slightly above average, which will have

only a limited impact on runoff rates. While most areas will receive 

rainfall amounts around 1.0 inch, a narrow corridor may receive 

localized rainfall up to 2.0 to 2.5 inches from multiple rounds of 

showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts of this magnitude will 

likely cause rises on area streams and rivers, some of which could 

reach or exceed flood stage.

         

This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts 

are possible, but not yet certain. Persons should closely monitor 

forecasts including the possibility of flood watches, warnings, and 

advisories.

 

No additional outlooks are expected for this event unless the threat 

for heavy rainfall becomes more certain.
