Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... A trough combined with deep moisture will bring periods of showers and thunderstorms across the islands during the next several days, particularly through at least Sunday. Based on the latest guidance, the most likely time period for the heaviest rainfall activity will continue into Saturday. The areas most likely to receive the highest rainfall accumulations are portions of the northeast, southeast, and east sections of Puerto Rico, as well as Vieques, Culebra, and the US Virgin Islands. Since 8 AM AST, estimated-rainfall totals around 3-4 inches have been observed in and around Utuado, Ponce, Catano, and Fajardo. Additional rainfall accumulations are expected to range from 2 to 4 inches, especially for the eastern half of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands with isolated higher event-total amounts possible between 6 and 8 inches. Elsewhere, 1 to 3 inches are expected. Due to already saturated soils, any prolonged period of heavy rainfall will result in urban and small stream flooding. Some rivers will likely overflow their banks. Therefore, Isolated life threatening flash flooding and mudslides are possible as well. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. && $$ ICP/GRS
