...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 1130 AM EDT THIS MORNING...



* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.



* WHERE...A portion of western Massachusetts, including the 

  following counties, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire.



* WHEN...Until 1130 AM EDT.



* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying 

  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 534 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges

    indicated moderate rain falling over the warned area. The

    Mill River was becoming swollen due to heavy rainfall. At 500

    AM, its level was at 10.49 ft with flood stage set at 11 ft.

    The river is expected to rise over flood stage, resulting in

    lowland flooding along the Oxbow floodplain in Northhampton,

    as well as flooding portions of the River Walk at Smith

    College. Additional minor flooding could develop in more

    urbanized and poor drainage areas as rounds of showers move

    across the warned area this morning. Between 0.5 and 1 inch

    of rain has fallen.

  - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the

    warned area.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

    Springfield, Chicopee, Holyoke, Amherst, Northampton, West

    Springfield, Ludlow, South Hadley, Easthampton, Granby,

    Southampton, Hadley, Hatfield, Williamsburg, Westhampton,

    Whately, Chesterfield and Goshen.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
