Southwesterly flow aloft will gradually intensify through the period

across the central and southern US as a progressive mid-level

pattern develops. A series of troughs will move across the Southwest

and Southern Plains bringing dry and windy conditions to the area. 



...Southern California...

A strong offshore wind event is forecast to develop late D2/Wed and

early D3/Thr. Downslope flow along the coastal ranges will support

surface RH in the single digits to low teens. Surface winds may

reach 40-60 mph at peak strength early D3/Thr. While meteorological

conditions would normally constitute highlights, poor fuel

conditions cast considerable doubt on the nature of any fire weather

threat. Locally elevated conditions are likely and additional

highlights may be needed should fuels continue to dry. 



...Southwest into the southern Plains...

Increasing flow aloft ahead of a diving shortwave trough will bring

progressively drier and breezier conditions across the region.

Localized fire weather potential appears likely D4/Thr through

D6/Sat before a cold front sweeps down from the north bringing

cooler and wetter weather. Fuels have slowly begun to respond to the

warmer and drier conditions over the last several days, but will

likely remain below values needed for highlights at this time.
