CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA ... && ####018002031#### FNUS28 KWNS 202130 FWDD38 Day 3-8 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0428 PM CDT Mon Oct 20 2025 Valid 221200Z - 281200Z ...Days 3-4/Wednesday-Thursday... Broad northwest flow south of a nearly stationary low over Quebec will promote a dry downslope pattern in the lee of the Appalachians midweek. Although dry fuels are present and low relative humidity is expected, forecast guidance continues to show muted wind magnitudes, limiting overall fire weather threat for the region. Reemergence of southwest winds between the western periphery of a surface high pressure over the southeastern U.S. and weak lee troughing in the southern High Plains is expected across portions of Northwest TX/western OK on Day 3/Wednesday. Generally weak surface pressure gradients under an advancing upper-level ridge should limit wind speeds. An approaching mid-level short wave and associated deepening lee trough along with an increase in boundary layer moisture and cloud cover should limit fire weather concerns across the Southern Plains Thursday. ...Days 5-7/Friday-Sunday... Fire weather concerns will begin to decrease across much of the Southern Plains late this week, potentially even central TX where very dry fuels exist. A mid-level short wave, associated surface low and increasing boundary layer moisture will support showers and thunderstorms across the Southern Plains and Mississippi Valley through the weekend, reducing fire weather threats to the region. ...Day 8/Monday... A potential for offshore winds across Southern CA emerges early next week as a deep trough enters the central U.S. with a cold surface high pressure settling into the Intermountain West. Forecast uncertainty in timing of offshore push and current and expected fuel conditions precludes introduction of critical probabilities at this time. ..Williams.. 10/20/2025 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product... $$
