Smoke from fires across western Nebraska has moved into the area this morning due to northeasterly winds being in place. Localized visibility reductions to 2 miles is possible, but reduced air quality and a smoke smell is possible as well until the nocturnal inversion breaks mid morning. Winds are forecast to turn to the southwest during the late morning and into the early afternoon. Highest confidence for multiple hours of critical fire weather conditions remains across Colorado fire zones 252 and 253 where wind gusts up to 35 mph are forecast. There is a 70% chance that an hour or two of critical conditions can occur across Nebraska fire zone 79 and Kansas fire zones 1,13 and 27. Saturday, more critical fire weather conditions are forecast with Colorado zones 252, 253 and 254 in a Red Flag Warning as southwesterly winds continue to gust to 35 mph along with very low humidity into the upper single digits are forecast. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued Nebraska fire zones 79 and 80 along with Kansas fire zones 1,2,13,14,27,28,41 and 42 for Saturday as well. Cloud cover may be thick through the day which may impact the magnitude of the winds. Current forecast has the lower end of the winds, if clouds do not play as much of a role then winds could gust even higher. Be aware of a strong cold front early Sunday morning shifting winds to the north along with strong winds in excess of 50 mph. The strong winds are forecast to last through the day Sunday.
