A Fire Danger Statement is in effect for portions of north and central Georgia until 7 PM EST. Dry conditions will persist across the area for the remainder of the day and into Saturday afternoon. RH values will drop to between 20- 25 percent for several hours this afternoon. Considering this along with strong mixing and drying fuels warranted the issuance of a Fire Danger Statement. Mixing heights will peak between 3500-4500 ft in the mid to late afternoon today. Winds this afternoon will be largely E/NE, between 4 mph in far north Georgia to as high as 8 mph in central Georgia. Winds overnight will shift to SE at 4 mph or less. These light winds and a strong near-surface temperature inversion could serve to trap smoke underneath tonight and during the overnight hours. Atmospheric moisture will begin to increase Saturday ahead of the next frontal system. Minimum RH values on Saturday will range from as low as 25 percent in east-central Georgia to 35 percent in far north Georgia. Winds will be S/SE at 4-8 mph.
