Current low pressure of 28.9 inches over Ontario has begun to intensify winds out of the northwest up to 20 knots. Wind gusts will intensify to gales as the pressure gradient continues to traverse across the lake, with the highest wind speeds expected on the eastern shore and the northern third of the lake. Winds are expected to fall below gale force by the evening going into Saturday morning. With the low pressure moving off, a building ridge over the central US will move over the lake, shifting winds lighter and more southerly through Saturday. A weak shortwave passing towards the north will shift winds out of the north early Monday. For this timeframe, winds will generally remain around 15 knots. This pressure gradient holds across the lake today as a 28.9 inch low currently centered over southern Ontario, just east of Lake Huron, slowly lifts north toward Quebec. By this evening, ridging at 30.0 inches builds across western Lake Superior then shifts east across the entire lake Saturday. Ridging shifts east Saturday night as a broad 29.7 inch low pressure moves across the Upper Midwest. This low pressure brushes the Great Lakes Sunday, centering over Lake Michigan early Sunday morning before being absorbed by deeper low pressure east of James Bay. A 30.0 inch ridge extending from northwest Ontario follows in its wake Sunday afternoon into Monday, building to 30.2 inches Tuesday morning.
