####018002300#### AGUS76 KRSA 121428 HMDRSA Hydrometeorological Discussion National Weather Service / California Nevada RFC / Sacramento CA 830 AM PDT Tue Mar 12 2024 ...WEAKENING SYSTEM WITH PRECIP TAPERING OFF TODAY... ...LOW PRESSURE OVER THE LWR COLORADO RIVER BASIN LATER THIS WEEK... .METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (SHORT TERM: TUE AM - FRI AM)... A s/wv trof is currently making its way onshore across the Pacific Northwest and northern CA this morning...as a sfc front is falling apart as it drops southward across the region with the best radar returns weakening over central CA. Precip will dissipate throughout Tuesday as the system moves inland...and then the overall pattern begins to amplify as a strong area of high pressure builds just off the west coast and expands northward into western Canada. At the same time...the s/wv trof moving inland today will dig southward through the Great Basin and form a cutoff low near the CA/NV/AZ triple point. This will set up a relatively dry north to northeast flow across the region with the only opportunity for scattered light precip near the NV/UT border and then down across the lower Colorado River basin. .METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (LONG TERM: FRI AM - MON AM)... High pressure over the north and central portions of the region and an upper low centered around the NV/CA/AZ border Friday and wobbles around there as it weakens Saturday into Sunday. Models and ensemble members vary on exact track of the low and how long the low will stick around into early next week. Some members move it farther south and east Sunday. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms rotating around the low are possible over far Srn NV and Srn CA (especially over the desert and north and east slopes) mainly on Friday and Saturday. PW values around a half an inch over the south. Precipitation amounts expected to be around a tenth of an inch or less Friday and Saturday. Freezing levels generally around 10,000 ft in NW CA and around 5000-7000 ft over Srn CA and NV Friday and Saturday and rising to around 7000ft-9000 ft over Srn CA and NV on Sunday.
