####018002319#### AGUS76 KRSA 241439 HMDRSA Hydrometeorological Discussion National Weather Service / California Nevada RFC / Sacramento CA 740 AM PDT Sun Mar 24 2024 ...SYSTEM EXITS FROM NORTH TO SOUTH TODAY... ...DRYING MON-TUE WITH A RETURN TO MORE PRECIP ENDING THE WEEK... .METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (SUN AM - SAT AM)... With one disturbance moving through the base of the overall upr trof along the CA/MX border...and the primary circulation along the southern OR coast beginning to drop southward...the flow aloft has turned more northerly with precip becoming a bit more scattered and focused along coastal areas and the Sierra. Through Sunday...look for the disturbance to parallel the coast before reaching northern Baja and shifting off toward the east. As this feature tracks near central CA...and eventually southern CA this afternoon and evening...look for the best precip to affect these areas before tapering off overnight. Freezing levels have bottomed out this morning...ranging anywhere from 3500-feet northwest to 6000-feet southeast...and between 4000- and 4500-feet along I-80. As the broad upr trof shifts farther inland...an upr ridge will build over the eastern Pacific primarily along 145W before moving eastward across the west coast on Tuesday. There may be a few showers in the initial northwest flow aloft across far northern areas...but coverage and amounts will be limited. Freezing levels will rebound with the height rises across the area...peaking either late Tuesday or early Wednesday ahead of the next system...from about 6000- to 7000-feet north...and 11500-feet for coastal southern CA. The next series of systems expected to impact the region are on tap for Wednesday and lasting through the remainder of the week. The initial wave of precip will move in through Wednesday as the s/wv trof makes its way primarily across the Pacific Northwest and northern CA...while a secondary system will dive southeast along the CA coast for the end of the week. There are model discrepancies on the trajectory of this second s/wv trof...leading to lowered confidence for the end of the week. QPF graphics are available at www.cnrfc.noaa.gov/qpf.php Kozlowski $$
