Weak shortwave ridge over the region this morning as the system moves off to the east and a weak shortwave trough approaches the Pac NW coast. The shortwave trough moves inland into the Pac NW and Nrn CA this afternoon into tonight then into Nevada on Sunday. This will bring scattered showers with precipitation accumulations generally less than a third of an inch (highest over west slope Srn Or Cascades and Smith and Shasta Basin and over Ruby mtns) over Srn OR and Nrn CA Coast and into the Shasta Basin and over far Nrn NV and NE NV Saturday into Saturday night. Precip mainly near the ORCA border and along the Sierra and over Nevada with accumulations generally a tenth of an inch or less on Sunday. High pressure builds into the region from the Eastern Pacific Monday into Thursday bringing warmer and drier conditions. Cold air over the region with the trough yesterday brought max temps around 10-25 degree below normal and broke or tied low max temp records at Fresno and Las Vegas and Desert Rock-Mercury, Bartsow and numerous locations in Orange and San Diego and western San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Palomar Mountain (San Diego County) also tied the low minimum temp record for april 5 with 26 degrees. Daily Max snowfall record set at Winnemucca on April 5 with 6.6 inches. Warmer temperatures expected today with max temps around 5 to 15 degrees below normal and around normal to 10 degrees below tonight. Max temps generally warm to near normal to around 15 degrees below normal (coldest over Srn Sierra and NV) on Sunday and near normal to 10 degrees above normal Tuesday and 5 to 15 degrees above normal Wednesday and Thursday with possibly the warmest temperatures we have seen so far this year. Freezing levels generally around 2500-4000ft over CA and around 3000- 5000ft over far SE CA and NV this morning rising to around 4000- 6000ft over the Sierra and to 7000ft and higher over Srn CA and 5000- 7000ft over NV this afternoon and around 5000-8000 ft over the region on Sunday afternoon. Freezing levels rise to around 7000 ft and higher over the region Monday afternoon and 9000-12000 ft Tuesday afternoon and remain around there through mid-week as high pressure builds into the region.
