Low pressure moved inland overnight bringing areas of moderate rain with about 0.5-1 inch of precip around the Sac and Stockton areas overnight. Record rainfall fell at Stockton Airport with 1.07 inches until midnight then 0.4 inches 6z-12Z. Low pressure and associated trough shift east through the region today bringing cool and showery conditions into this evening. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible today. Precip amounts will be variable due to convective nature. Heaviest amounts around 0.25-0.75 with local amounts around an inch expected over the Big Sur Coast and along the Srn Sierra and the San Gabriel and San Bernardino Mtns and down into San Diego County mountains and over mtns of Nrn and Ern NV. Weak shortwave ridge moves in as the system moves off to the east overnight into Saturday morning with NW flow. The weak ridge shifts to the east as A weak shortwave trough along the Pac NW coast and into Nrn CA Saturday afternoon. The shortwave trough moves inland Saturday night and through Nevada on Sunday. Generally Light precipitation (less than a third of an inch (highest over Smith Basin and over Ruby mtns) is possible over Srn OR and Nrn CA Coast and into the Shasta Basin and over far Nrn NV and NE NV Saturday into Saturday night. Precip amounts for Sunday generally less than a tenth of an inch possible mainly along the Nrn and Central CA coast and higher terrain and along the Sierra and over Nevada. This system brought in cold air with max temperatures generally 10-25 degrees below normal yesterday and again today. Record low max temps set on Thursday at Sac Executive Airport with high of 51 and Sacramento International Airport at 52 and in Marysville with 52 degrees and Modesto at 53 degrees. Record low max temps possible again today, especially over Srn CA. Overnight minimum temps generally below normal up to 15 degrees tonight with a few record temps possible over Srn CA. Temps warm to around 5 to 15 degrees below normal Saturday and around normal to 10 degrees below Saturday night. Max temps generally warm to near normal to around 15 degrees below normal (coldest over Srn Sierra and NV) on Sunday. Freezing levels around 2000-3000 ft over the Sierra and around 3000- 4000ft over Srn CA mtns and around 3000-5000ft over NV this morning rising to around 4000-6000ft over the Sierra and to 7000ft and higher over Srn CA and 5000-7000ft over NV Saturday afternoon. .METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (LONG TERM: MON AM - THU AM)... A quiet period in terms of precip to start the work week with a s/wv trof moving downstream of the area across the Desert Southwest. At the same time...an upr ridge over the eastern Pacific will first nudge across the Pacific Northwest and northern CA before the axis of this feature moves onshore across the entire west coast on Tuesday.
