Forecast still on track for cool and showery conditions with only a little increase (around a tenth of an inch or less) in the precip amounts over the Srn Sierra and San Bernardino Mtns into the San Diego Mtns and over Nrn and Central NV this afternoon and evening and near the ORCA border into the Shasta Basin Saturday evening. Low pressure and associated trough shift east through the region bringing cool and showery conditions into this evening. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible today. Precip amounts will be variable due to convective nature. Heaviest amounts around 0.25-0.75 with local amounts around an inch expected over the Big Sur Coast and along the Srn Sierra and the San Gabriel and San Bernardino Mtns and down into San Diego County mountains and over mtns of Nrn and Central NV. Weak shortwave ridge moves in as the system moves off to the east overnight into Saturday morning with NW flow. The weak ridge shifts to the east as a weak shortwave trough along the Pac NW coast and into Nrn CA Saturday afternoon and moves inland Saturday night and through Nevada on Sunday. Generally light precipitation (less than a third of an inch (highest over Srn Or Cascades and Smith and Shasta Basin and over Ruby mtns) over Srn OR and Nrn CA Coast and into the Shasta Basin and over far Nrn NV and NE NV Saturday into Saturday night. Precip amounts for Sunday generally less than a tenth of an inch possible mainly along the Nrn and Central CA coast and higher terrain and along the Sierra and over Nevada. This system brought in cold air with max temperatures generally 10- 25 degrees below normal again today. Record low max temps possible again today. Overnight minimum temps generally below normal up to 15 degrees tonight with a few record temps possible. Temps warm to around 5 to 15 degrees below normal Saturday and around normal to 10 degrees below Saturday night. Max temps generally warm to near normal to around 15 degrees below normal (coldest over Srn Sierra and NV) on Sunday. Freezing levels generally around 3000-4000ft over CA and around 4000- 5000ft over far SE CA and NV this afternoon rising to around 4000- 6000ft over the Sierra and to 7000ft and higher over Srn CA and 5000- 7000ft over NV Saturday afternoon and around 5000-8000 ft on Sunday afternoon. .METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (LONG TERM: MON AM - THU AM)... A s/wv trof will be moving east of the area across the Desert Southwest...while an offshore upr ridge moves from the eastern Pacific across the western US. This will bring the region dry conditions with temperatures warming through the period. By the latter half of the week...the region may see some of the warmest days of the year.
