Heavy snow will impact the mountains north of highway 50 with the heaviest snow impacting Chaffee and Lake counties. An additional 4 to 8 inches will be possible above 9000 with the focus shifting south of Cottonwood Pass after 6 AM. A brief round of moderate to heavy snow will spread into Teller and northern Fremont counties later this morning with 4 to 8 inches of accumulation possible above 9000 feet and quick slushy accumulations of up to 4 inches possible for the lower elevations down to 8000 feet. Snow levels will rise this afternoon which should limit any travel impacts to the morning hours as road surfaces melt off. Across the remainder of the area, local snow accumulations of up to 4 inches will be possible across the higher mountains with another round of showers and thunderstorms across most of the lower elevations. A few strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the southeast plains with hail up to quarter size in diameter and wind gusts to 60 mph possible across Kiowa, Bent, Prowers and Baca counties. Although the risk is low, a brief weak landspout tornado can not be ruled out, especially across Baca and Prowers counties this afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will come to an end this evening. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday Showers will increase in coverage both Monday and Tuesday. Snow is expected along the mountains, with rain showers and thunderstorms expected elsewhere. The greatest hazard with any thunderstorms will be lightning and gusty winds.
