SYNOPSIS...A low pressure forms over the north slope Wednesday and moves northward in the Beaufort. Another low pressure may form in the same location on Friday. -BEAUFORT SEA- PKZ505-Central US Arctic Offshore- The main ice edge in the Beaufort Sea extends from 73 11'N 135 21'W to 73 48'N 140 38'W to 74 41'N 147 31'W to 76 55'N 150 1'W. From land-based points in Alaska, the main ice edge in the Beaufort Sea extends from 235 nm NE of Kaktovik to 220 nm N of Kaktovik to 250 nm N of Oliktok Point to 370 nm N of Oliktok Point. The ice edge is open water. FORECAST FOR THE BEAUFORT SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Forecast confidence is moderate. Winds from the east will continue to push ice into the eastern Beaufort. Winds are then expected to shift and flow around the low pressure starting on Wednesday. Expect retreat and melt to continue. -CHUKCHI SEA- PKZ500-Western US Arctic Offshore- The main ice edge in the Chukchi Sea extends from 76 6'N 158 9'W to 75 32'N 176 42'W to 74 22'N 178 37'W to 72 56'N 160 11'W to 71 58'N 176 5'W to 69 9'N 175 0'W. The ice edge is open water. From land-based points in Alaska, the main ice edge in the Chukchi Sea extends from 300 nm N of Pt Barrow to 400 nm NW of Pt Barrow to 400 nm W/NW of Pt Barrow to 110 nm NW of Pt Barrow to 350 nm W of Pt Barrow to 180 nm W of Pt Hope.
